Students from one Mississippi school's eighth-grade gifted class are finalists in a national science and technology competition. The students developed a device to assist arthritis sufferers as part of the Christopher Columbus Awards, which challenged them to use scientific methods to solve a problem they identified as affecting their community. The students' teacher said the project had them using skills from across the curriculum, including technology they used to create a PowerPoint presentation and promotional video for the contest's judges.
