Russian scientists have begun to study six men who have agreed to spend 18 months sequestered in a Mars-like environment, with limited rations and only e-mail as a means of contact with those outside the sequestered environment. Located at the Institute of Biomedical Problems in Moscow, the Mars500 study will simulate life in a space capsule and on Mars, enabling scientists to research such things as the psychological impact and changes in sleep, nutrition or hormones.
