Leaders are only as good as the information with which they're presented, says MasterCard CEO Robert Selander. That makes it vital to assemble a team of people who possess "presence" -- an ability to communicate clearly the things they understand, and enough self-awareness to keep their mouths shut when they're out of their depth. "Some people ... will brilliantly communicate something that they shouldn't be talking about," Selander says. "Presence is knowing what to communicate, and how."
