The American Petroleum Institute started airing ads against Michigan Rep. Sandy Levin's proposal to pay for his green-energy tax legislation by eliminating tax subsidies for the oil and gas industry. The ads intend to show that raising taxes on the sector, which comprise 7.5% of the U.S. gross domestic product and 9.2 million jobs, will have a significant impact on the economy. "The ads are part of the national debate on energy and tax policy," said API President Jack Gerard.
