The oil and gas industry scrutinized a provision in the Senate's energy bill that would require companies to disclose the chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing, a controversial drilling technique. The American Petroleum Institute said that it backs limited disclosure but is against the federal government's participation in the reporting process. "We believe that this provision overreaches," said API spokeswoman Cathy Landry. "State regulators are providing responsible oversight for drilling operations."
