Senate Democrats and Republicans criticized an energy bill unveiled by Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., this week, saying it goes beyond merely holding the oil industry liable for disasters. "I think people who are very serious about responding to the spill in the Gulf should be offended by what has been presented," said Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., meanwhile, said she may not support any spill-related measures "without making sure that the Gulf Coast is adequately compensated" for financial harm.
