Healthy adults who took in at least 2.6 ounces of fructose or about 2.5 sugary drinks a day were 28% more likely to have a blood pressure of 135/85 or higher, and 77% more prone to extreme high blood pressure, according to a U.S. study. The findings drew criticism from industry groups. Dr. Maureen Storey of the American Beverage Association said: "This study, which looks at fructose intake, furthers the confusion and misunderstandings about high fructose corn syrup and sugar-sweetened beverages."
