A study of 109 nondiabetic patients with Alzheimer's disease or mild cognitive impairment found that those who were given insulin through their nose using a nebulizer twice daily for four months performed better in memory tests compared with those who were given a placebo. The study also found that insulin-treated patients who underwent a spinal tap had improved levels of key proteins linked with the disease.
