As drug-related violence escalates in Mexico, several states are asking schools to hold "shootout drills" where students learn to dive onto the floor and cover their heads when gunfire erupts. The drills are being incorporated into teacher-training courses this summer. While schools are not usually targeted, at least nine incidents of drug-related violence have occurred in school zones since October. "We're in a situation like nothing we've ever lived through before, and we need to make sure the children are safe," one school official said.
