The NTSB said Tuesday there was plenty of blame to go around in the case of a Continental Airlines jet that veered off the runway at Denver International Airport in December 2008. The safety board found that the incident could have been prevented had the jet's pilot used a rudder properly, though it noted he had only seconds to respond. Further complicating the situation: Air traffic controllers failed to notify the pilot of potentially dangerous gusts, and pilots are not properly trained for gusty takeoff conditions, the board found. The findings drew immediate criticism from some quarters. "I'm not sure I agree with the idea that he (the pilot) could have kept it on the runway," said one passenger who survived the fatality-free incident. "I guess at the end of the day, any landing or aborted takeoff you can walk away from is a good one."
