A number of Oregon school districts have received federal stimulus money to help educate students with autism. One district used the grant money to fund additional autism training for teachers and buy learning software and other research-based classroom supplies. Another district opted to purchase 10 iPads and hire an assistant to offer more individual instruction to students with the disorder. "It's wonderful to have the extra money to spend, especially times like now when money is tight," one district official said.
