A majority of California voters would back marriage equality, if a ballot measure such as Proposition 8 were introduced today, a survey by the Public Religion Research Institute has found. Three-quarters of California residents support laws prohibiting anti-gay workplace bias, nearly 70% favor having gays serve openly in the military and 56% back the rights of same-sex couples to adopt children. The poll also found that 25% of Californians had become more in favor of gay rights since 2005, while 8% had increased their opposition.
