The Teach for America program -- which places college graduates in teaching jobs at the country's neediest schools -- has become increasingly competitive in the down economy. There were 46,359 applicants to the program in 2010 -- a 32% increase from 2009 -- and Teach for America accepted just 4,500. The guaranteed two-year position comes with a competitive salary and is considered a resume builder by many, but some education experts criticize the program for its high turnover rate.
