Health code violations in airline catering kitchens should be punishable by fines up to $50,000, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said Thursday, and chronic violators should be barred from doing business at U.S. airports. Schumer urged stricter FDA monitoring of caterers after media reports of unsanitary conditions at some of the facilities that provide 405 million airline meals annually.
