The economy continues to struggle to recover as one of its primary drivers -- small business -- continues to suffer. The pessimism and reticence of small businesses to hire because of slumping sales is playing a big part in the speed of the recovery, experts say. "The small-business sector is not on a positive trajectory, and with this half of the private sector missing-in-action, the economy's poor growth performance is no surprise," said NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg.
