A U.S. study showed that men between the ages of 40 and 70 with severe sleep apnea had a 68% increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease and a 58% increased risk of developing heart failure compared with those without the condition. Researchers, however, noted that sleep apnea did not increase the risk for coronary heart disease in men over 70 or in women.
