A Texas teacher has won a University of Texas Center for Science and Mathematics Education -- Math Mentoring Excellence Award for her efforts to share effective teaching strategies and methods with her peers. After attending training seminars, Heather Makare spent 90 hours mentoring other teachers and sharing what she had learned. "When she came back from this training, she was just so excited about it. When you have enthusiasm like that and you see other teachers getting excited about it, you need to support that," the school's principal said.
