An uptick in the value of the yen pushed Japan's Nikkei 225 down 2.2% on Wednesday. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 and Singapore's Straits Times Index dropped 0.4%, while South Korea's Kospi Composite declined 0.7%. China's Shanghai Composite, New Zealand's NZX 50 and Malaysia's KLCI slid 0.3%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 0.2%, Taiwan's Taiex inched down 0.1% and India's Sensex inched up 0.1%. Indonesian and Philippine shares added 0.5%, while Thailand's SET advanced 0.4%.
