Brazilian petrochemical firm Braskem has reported a reduced second-quarter net income of $26 million, as unfavorable currency movements affected results. The company also began realizing the benefits of its merger with Quattor after "synergies" proved crucial to "value accretion," said Braskem CEO Bernado Gradin. However, the international industry and economy "require attention" because of developments including new petrochem capacity and weakening Chinese demand, Gradin added.
