As high-speed rail projects get going around the country, most of the work is going toward speeding up train service over existing lines, rather than building true bullet trains over dedicated railways. California and Florida are going whole hog, however, with plans to construct railways to host 220-mph and 168-mph trains, respectively. Though the Obama administration has recently doled out billions in grant money, the federal government has targeted 10 different high-speed corridors since 1991.
