Many Ohio schools ask parents to buy basic supplies for their children, but when they are unable or unwilling to, it is often teachers who purchase the supplies. Some schools charge student fees to cover the costs or give teachers stipends, but many teachers eventually spend their own money on classroom decorations, paper, pens and other supplies. Cleveland-area teachers say they spend anywhere from $100 to $2,000 each year.
