The Environmental Protection Agency announced last week it was drafting action plans for for benzidine dyes; hexabromocyclododecane, or HBCD; and nonylphenol/nonylphenol ethoxylates, or NP/NPEs. That makes eight chemical groups targeted for additional scrutiny under the Toxic Substances Control Act. Among the actions that the EPA is considering are additional restrictions on all three compounds, adding HBCD and NP/NPEs to the "chemicals of concern list" and curbing or outlawing HBCD and benzidine dyes, according to a report in Environmental Leader.
