Los Angeles is poised to open the country's most expensive public school ever. Built on the site of the former Ambassador Hotel, the $578 million school is designed to be the antithesis of the jail-like public schools constructed in the 1970s. Instead of cinder block and small windows, the school will feature fine art murals, a public park, a state-of-the-art swimming pool and preserved elements of the original Ambassador Hotel, where Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.
