Educators in Hawaii say they are glad that this past year's Furlough Fridays are over, as they prepare for a new school year and upcoming curriculum changes to comply with the expected adoption of national education standards. Students attended 17 fewer days of school than planned in 2009-10 because of the teacher furloughs. "Naturally, having all of our Fridays back allows for a well-balanced instructional effort by all of the teachers," one principal said.
