Environmental advocates are ratcheting up opposition to a proposed oil-pipeline project linking the Canadian border to the Gulf Coast after an incident last month where about 1 million gallons of crude oil leaked from a pipeline into the Kalamazoo River in Michigan. The groups point to the leak as an example of the danger of expanding pipeline projects. They want the Obama administration to deny a proposal for a 1,661-mile pipeline that would link to an existing 2,151-mile network and transport oil through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
