Subway has been implementing larger sustainability efforts since 2007, amid an aggressive global expansion that has expanded the chain to 33,000 stores in 90 countries. Salad bowls made from recycled plastic bottles, a more centralized distribution system that cuts down on transportation-related carbon emissions and the launch of eco-stores that seek to meet LEED certification standards are some of the ways the sandwich giant seeks to lessen its environmental footprint.
