The Food and Drug Administration is considering whether a salmon that has been genetically engineered to grow to twice its normal size is safe to eat, a decision that could allow the first genetically-altered animal product to land on consumers' plates. Producer Aqua Bounty Technologies says the fish has the potential to boost production and help the environment, while food-safety experts worry about the potential for side effects and increased industrial fish farming.
