As Mark Hurd's departure from Hewlett-Packard shows, no executive's job is completely secure -- and that means you owe it to your company to put a solid succession strategy in place, writes John Sullivan. HP's haphazard efforts are a warning of how much credibility a company can lose if it gets things wrong, Sullivan writes. "By all accounts, HP has demonstrated failure, and other organizations can/should learn from its mistakes," he adds.
