The California Capital Airshow at Mather Airport in Sacramento, Calif., will honor the 100th anniversary of women in aviation. In 1910, Raymonde de Laroche of France became the first woman to earn a pilot's license. Organizers estimate the airshow will attract 100,000 visitors this weekend.
Adept Airmotive, an aviation company based in South Africa, developed the first engine for general aviation designed to run on biofuel. The Adept 320T engine can also run on current low-lead standard aviation fuel.
John Montemayor, a pilot with the Washington State Patrol, pulls over an average of more than 15 cars each day for speeding. "Our type of flying is a little different from conventional flying," Montemayor said. "I just go in and find a piece of real estate and go in circles."
Daytona Beach International Airport has become only the third demonstration site in the U.S. where the FAA will test satellite-based NextGen technology. The Daytona research center is a partnership between Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and aerospace companies such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
According to a new survey, general aviation in Ohio is responsible for 17,352 jobs and $498 million in payroll. The nonprofit Alliance for Aviation Across America released the nationwide survey this week. "We continue to see the misunderstanding that general aviation is mostly comprised of corporate CEOs, and it's just not the case," said Selena Shilad, director of the alliance.
