Building the suspension span for the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge will cost almost $2 billion, $293 million more than originally budgeted, officials say. The total cost for replacing the bridge's eastern span will remain unchanged, at $6.2 billion, and the project should still be completed on schedule. "You never like it when you have higher costs, but the good news is we are still within the overall budget for the entire east span," said a Bay Area Toll Authority spokesman.
