Boeing is considering raising the number of 737s it manufactures on a monthly basis to 40, according to CFO James Bell. The company recently raised its production to 35 per month, beginning in 2012. Bell also said re-engining the narrow-body workhorse appears unlikely because gains in fuel efficiency would not be sufficient to offset increased costs. "Our customers haven't shown a real interest in a re-engined airplane," he noted.
