Construction spending may remain weak for the balance of the year, but Reed Construction Data economist Jim Haughey forecasts a rise in spending levels in the coming two years. Construction spending will grow 5.3% in 2011 and 11.4% in 2012, he predicts. However, should China's economic expansion slow, or state budgets contract further, the U.S. economic recovery could be stymied, Haughey argues.
