CBS should not have bleeped out an expletive used by actor Michael Douglas when he was asked by "Late Show" host David Letterman whether doctors has diagnosed his throat cancer at an early enough stage, according to writer John Eggerton. The network edited Douglas' reply of, "I sure as s--- hope so," because it did not meet internal standards. But Eggerton argues that the heartfelt comment, which occurred during a time period when fleeting expletive standards were relaxed, is another example of why the rules for expletives need to be changed permanently.
