A new report from an FAA panel urges increased training and higher proficiency standards for airline co-pilots, according to media reports. The panel's recommendations include requiring co-pilots to pass flight tests that are more difficult than those required under current regulations and requiring the co-pilot to master the specific aircraft type that he or she will operate. If adopted, the recommendations would be the most significant change to pilot qualifications in decades.
