The federal government has launched a health care application called Pillbox, which lets users identify unknown pills based on their markings and appearance. The app was built and promoted using social-media and crowdsourcing strategies, and it was developed with the help of online programming communities. "Social media was the key channel. It was through Twitter that we maintained these relationships and built new ones," says David Hale, the project's manager.
