Last week's Mariner Energy oil-platform fire in the Gulf of Mexico does not warrant an extension of the government's deepwater-drilling ban, which is set to end Nov. 30, writes Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao, R-La. And the Obama administration should lift the moratorium right away because it is costing Louisiana, particularly its oil and gas and fishing industries, more economic damage after the BP spill. The ban may prompt owners of inactive Gulf drilling rigs to seek locations abroad for work, Cao writes.
