More private teacher-training colleges could help the Keta area in Ghana address its teacher shortage, said a top education official. Keta needs about 450 more teachers, said Edward Gbetodeme, municipal director of education. Gbetodeme said that subpar student performance could be traced to the shortfall and that organizations already offering educational opportunities, such as churches, could help run the teaching colleges.
