U.S. researchers found that obese people have higher real-life costs than their overweight counterparts due to factors such as medical expenses, lost productivity and more frequent sick leaves. Every year, obese men and women each spend $2,646 and $4,879 respectively, while those who aren't as severely overweight and fall into the "overweight" category spend $524 at most, according to the report.
