A team of veterinarians, city officials and animal advocates in Sacramento, Calif., greeted this year's arrival of Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey circus armed with a new ordinance that allows them to inspect and monitor the care of circus animals for the first time. Circus staffers were cooperative and inspections revealed no problems, the team reported. "We will be out there every day, making sure that everything is being handled appropriately and humanely," said city shelter director Penny Cistaro.
