Hollywood executives like to credit Twitter with spurring box office success -- but a study now suggests that the "Twitter effect" may be far less powerful than thought. Movies' commercial success appeared uncorrelated to the amount of buzz they drummed up on Twitter, the study found, and moviegoers said they were 11 times more likely to be influenced by peer recommendations on Facebook than by Twitter chatter.
