Data from the Nurses' Health Study showed that postmenopausal women who had high lifetime consumption of coffee were at least 22% less likely and as much as 57% less likely than noncoffee drinkers to develop gout. The trend was not found in other caffeinated beverages, which suggests that "components other than caffeine may also contribute" to reduced risk, the researchers said.
