The Environmental Protection Agency made a premature decision in seeking an immediate comment period for the toxicological review of the chemical hexavalent chromium, according to the American Chemistry Council. While the ACC is in favor of a comprehensive risk assessment, the EPA issued its draft assessment before the results of an upcoming study could be published, said Ann Mason, a senior director for the ACC. "These new data, to be released by early 2011, could provide a more robust scientific basis to the cancer-risk assessment," Mason said.
