U.S. private nonfarm companies shed 39,000 jobs in September, 28,000 of which were in the construction industry, according to the new ADP National Employment Report. The figures are in contrast with mainstream economists' forecast that private sector employment would grow by 20,000 jobs during the period. "Economic growth slowed pretty much in the middle of the year ... and we think the fourth quarter is going to be a quarter of slow economic growth," one economist said.
