Amtrak and Iowa Interstate Railroad will begin operation of a passenger-rail service between Chicago and Iowa City. Two trains will run each day, moving at up to 79 mph. Iowa Gov. Chet Culver said he wants the state to lead the nation in "green" transportation technology, especially high-speed rail. Soy-based lubricants, biodiesel-fueled trains and energy-saving depots are part of the vision for the Iowa City-to-Chicago line.
