According to the real estate research company, as of Q3 2010, local shopping vacancy rates more than doubled from 2006 levels. Meanwhile, asking rates have dropped by three-quarters. Kelly Gray, vice president of leasing for Equity Retail Advisors, says rental rates have not been cut as deeply as CoStar suggests. "They have dropped, but they haven't dropped 75%."
