Scientists with the European Food Safety Authority have ruled that probiotic health claims are either too general to be allowed, or can't be proved, and in a separate ruling said evidence does not support Yakult's claims that its probiotic strain protects against the common cold. Danone has withdrawn immune and digestive claims related to Activia and Actimel, but said, "EFSA has not yet completed its review of all probiotic products and Danone remains fully confident of the science backing its products."
