Ziptrek Ecotours introduced the sport of zip-lining to North America in 2002, and co-founders David Udow and Charles Steele say they always knew they wanted to expand into a "handful of world-class locations." New Zealand, with its breathtaking terrain and love of adventure sports, seemed like the perfect candidate for Ziptrek's second location. But getting the necessary approvals turned out to be a nightmare of applications and negotiations, Udow says -- a project that stretched into four years and millions of dollars. Still, Udow says he thinks it was worth the effort: "Getting the great locations takes time. You can get the mediocre ones in a minute, but the great ones are harder to come by."
