The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced this week that it will allot $1.6 million to support six research projects targeted at white-nose syndrome, a potentially fatal fungal disease that already has decimated more than 1 million bats. The projects aim to investigate how the fungus transfers from one bat to another and improve disease surveillance, among other objectives.
