The town of DeWitt, N.Y., has replaced its town hall roof with an insulated, energy-efficient version and plans to add solar panels to the roof-top next, as part of a plan to eventually reduce its energy consumption by half. The new roof cost $130,000 while the solar panels are likely to run about $280,000, saving the town at least $12,000 in utility costs a year.
