Breed-specific legislation has been proved ineffective and there remains no scientific proof that a certain type of dog is more likely to bite than other dogs, yet it continues to be an attractive policy to some, according to this letter to the editor written by Francis Battista, the co-founder of the Best Friends Animal Society. These laws are based largely on fear, he adds, citing a study published in the JAVMA.
